How it works

How Voting Works

Voting takes a few seconds and needs no account. Here's what happens from the moment you press Vote.

How to vote

  1. Go to the homepage and press Vote on the leader you prefer.
  2. Type a name or nickname. It will be shown publicly, so a nickname is fine.
  3. Press Cast my vote. Your name sparkles and your vote joins the totals.

Who can take part

Anyone who finds this website can vote. There's no sign-up, and we don't ask for an email address or phone number. That also means we can't check who a voter is, where they live or whether they're eligible to vote in Indian elections.

How votes are counted

Your vote goes to a secure function on our server, which checks it and saves it in the database. Percentages are each candidate's share of the total.

Results update for everyone on the website without a refresh. See them on the live results page.

How repeat voting is discouraged

Your browser keeps a random token that's used to recognise a second vote from it. The server also limits how many attempts one network can make in a short time, and a bot check helps stop automated votes.

None of this guarantees one vote per person. Clearing browser data, or switching to another browser or device, gets around it, and many mobile users in India share one IP address. It's one reason these results aren't a scientific sample.

How your name is shown

Your name appears among recent voters, without your choice. Only the latest names are kept, and they're stored apart from votes. The privacy policy has the details.
